On Wednesday, August 17, an ongoing conference on the project “Snina – a city that is ready for climate change” was held in the historic premises of the manor house in Snina, which is financed by Norwegian grants and the state budget of the Slovak Republic as part of the Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation program.
The conference was officially opened by the mayor of Snina, Mrs. Ing. Daniela Galandová. In her opening words, the mayor highlighted the contribution of the project, which laid the foundation stone of the Snina direction in the city for a better life in the climate crisis, so that the city’s residents are not exposed to serious manifestations of climate emergency. At the end of her speech, she emphasized that there is no need to be afraid of changes, it is necessary to prepare for changes, and the city, also thanks to this project, is ready.
Subsequently, Denis Knotka, director of the Department of Control of Technical Assistance Projects and Transnational Cooperation Programs, Ministry of the Environment, addressed the guests of the conference and the public.
After a short break, the presentation of Mgr. Erika Jankajová, MBA, PhD., head of the department of strategic development of the city of Snina on the topic “What we have already achieved and what is still waiting for us in the project “Snina – a city that is ready for climate change”.
The central topics of the conference were the evaluation of the current situation in the cadastre of the city of Snina and the presentation of the priorities, solutions and benefits of the Climate Change Preparedness Action Plan, which were presented in their presentations by project experts landscape ecologist Ing. Michal Gažovič, PhD. and hydrologist Ing. Michal Kravčík, CSc..
The guests present and the public in the following two lectures presented by the architect Ing. Arch. Martin Štofir and designer Ing. Róbert Šmajd, they had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with a number of proposals for the urban environment, economic and natural landscape, in the context of mitigating and adapting to climate change.
The end of the conference belonged to special guests from abroad Håkon Borch and Ketil Haarstad from the Norwegian Institute for Bioecology, which is a parameter of the project. In their lectures, they presented not only the activity and contribution of their institute, but also the interesting topic of drainage through soil infiltration.
The goal of the project is the implementation of adaptive measures to mitigate and adapt to climate change in Snina. The project is exceptional in terms of new investment adaptive measures that will also contribute to the revitalization of public space with new green and blue infrastructure
